Dear Clients, [lease read this letter we received. And please know, we must protect the birds that may be in our chimneys and THEN put on a screened rain cap, do not disturb nests in case you are lucky enough to have a Chimney Swift in residence.. Thank You ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

I'm writing to you in my capacity as the coordinator of the Chimney Swift Chimney Restoration Fund (aka Chimney Swift Fund), a program launched by Birds Canada and partners to provide financial support for the restoration of chimneys known to be important for Chimney Swifts in Canada.

The Canadian Chimney Swift population has declined by nearly 90% since 1970. Some of the challenges Chimney Swifts are facing include a reduced availability of suitable chimneys for nesting and roosting, and the loss of nests, eggs and chicks when chimney sweeping is conducted during the nesting season (generally from late May to early September). This bird species is designated as Threatened in Canada and is protected under federal and provincial laws.

I would like to share with you a document (see attached file or this link) we have developed that contains key information on Chimney Swifts, and best management practices that can be adopted by service providers working on chimneys to help conserve this species. I hope you find this document informative.

I would be grateful if you could let your clients know about the Chimney Swift Fund in case they might be interested in taking advantage of this funding opportunity. It would also be much appreciated if you could let me know if you find a Chimney Swift nest.

Thank you for your help and don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions about the Chimney Swift Fund.

Sincerely,

Véronique Connolly
