Note to Self..... #ATVSafetyAwarenessWeek starts today and members of the #SGBOPP and our Road Safety partner Safe and Sober Awareness Committee of North Simcoe along with the @ofatv_clubs want to remind all #atv riders to be safe operators this week and every week while on the trail. Impaired driving has no place on our trails and roadways and threatens the safety of all users. #NeverDriveImpaired Injuries or worse that happen to riders that are involved in trail related crashes all too often point to the lack of proper safety equipment use such as helmets and rider training. Ontario's Youth ATV Rider Training Program https://ofatv.org/ready-to-rideon/ or take an ATV driving course. https://canadasafetycouncil.org/.../off-road-vehicle.../ Make every ride a safe and enjoyable one! https://ofatv.org/tips-for-the-riders/
(MIDLAND,ON)- In an effort to keep residents of North Simcoe aware of upcoming or ongoing frauds and scams the #SGBOPP Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment work in partnership with the The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC). The following article also includes the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) to raise awareness among Canadians about the increasing threat of sophisticated scams, particularly those involving extended online communication. These scams often culminate in convincing individuals to invest in various schemes, frequently involving cryptocurrencies.
These elaborate scams use social manipulation and financial grooming tactics to exploit the public's interest in, and incomplete understanding of, crypto assets. Victims are lured into transferring increasing amounts of money.
Typical investment frauds offer "get rich quick" opportunities and promise higher than normal returns. Unfortunately, these frauds often result in investors losing most, or all, of their money.
The CAFC is also noticing an increase in romance/investment scams, a method colloquially known as "pig butchering". Victims are contacted on dating apps/websites or social media by fraudsters attempting to develop a relationship to gain trust. The fraudster then claims to have been successful in cryptocurrency investments and offers to help the victim "get rich". Fraudsters use fake online trading platforms and convince victims to transfer funds or cryptocurrency into their trading account, often resulting in the victim being unable to withdraw their funds.
Fraudsters may try to befriend the victim, develop an online romance, or pose as legitimate investment advisers. Over time, the scammer will suggest investing in an opportunity, often involving crypto assets, and once a substantial amount of money or crypto is sent, the scammer abruptly ceases contact.
In some cases, when victims request their money back, the fraudster agrees but demands additional funds for supposed taxes and fees before disappearing. Victims may also be approached by new entities offering to help recover their funds for a fee, which is yet another layer of fraud.

Now is The Best Time to Check Your Vessels Equipment, Especially Lifejackets
(MIDLAND, On)- Now is the best time to ensure all of your vessels safety equipment is accounted for and functioning properly. Marine officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are now out on patrol and are checking vessels and operators for proper equipment and signs of driver impairment as the 2024 boating season begins.
Detachment marine officers during the May 3-5, 2024 time period checked 21 vessels over their 21 hours of patrol time while on the waterways here in North Simcoe. A 40 year old Toronto resident operator was cited for having open alcohol aboard and four others were cited for a offence under the Canada Shipping Act. Operators should be aware that it is the same on the water as it is on the road and officers can administer a screening device test for alcohol consumption and a fail result may lead to charges under the Criminal Code of Canada.
