As health captures your interest more and more, you might be wondering where to go for health information. Start with your local health unit. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is an accredited community health agency. Public health programs and services are designed with you in mind and supported by your municipal and provincial tax dollars. The health unit's activities are guided by the Board of Health made up of elected officials and representatives from the community. The Medical Officer of Health, a physician with specialized training in community health, leads a team of professionals to offer you a wide range of health services focused on promoting and protecting health and preventing disease, illness and injury.
Services Include: Family Health (Healthy Babies, Healthy Children, prenatal programs, infant feeding, parenting and child development); Healthy Living (active living and healthy eating, cancer prevention, injury prevention--including drugs and alcohol, tobacco use prevention and control); Health Protection (safe food and water, rabies, environment and health hazards); Clinical Services (communicable disease and infection control, sexual health, immunization and dental health).
