Phoenix Inspirations

Renovating a kitchen is a huge investment, both in time and money. When Tony and I decided we were ready to renovate our 70’s kitchen, I was surprised at how little help the “kitchen” people were. I felt they were the “professionals” and for the investment I was about to make, there should have been a lot more guidance. Frustrated, a friend gave me George’s name, suggesting that I email him; perhaps George could be of some help. I contacted George telling him I was probably out of his area but I was frustrated and would appreciate any guidance he could provide. George and I met and we talked for a couple of hours. We talked about my vision, he made suggestions and asked questions. Questions like how tall was my husband, who did most of the cooking, where did we hide our kitchen “stuff” and what type of food did we cook. I immediately felt better, having made contact with George. George’s quiet manner and professionalism put me at ease. Our first meeting led to a design and eventually to the complete renovation of our kitchen done by George Barber, aka Phoenix Inspirations. George’s sense of design and his attention to small details is amazing. If I have another kitchen to renovate/design I would certainly contact George. George, for all your guidance, professionalism, hard work and friendship, thank you.

About twenty years ago, I purchased a 1950’s bungalow in Ajax. I renovated this home creating a second storey. What had been two tiny bedrooms became my kitchen. I do a lot of baking and preserving so I need a “working” kitchen. In my search for a kitchen designer I was fortunate enough to meet George Barber. He listened to how I used my kitchen and created a “perfect” space for me. I still really enjoyed my kitchen twenty years later when I retired and sold this house. I moved to Midland and had a house built here. I went searching to find George Barber to design the kitchen and bathrooms in my new home. Kitchen styles and available materials had changed but George has created another kitchen that I just love! LED, under cabinet, lights are a great addition. I also have two very functional bathrooms. Both contain “barrier-free” showers (no threshold, no door) that I will continue to enjoy and appreciate as I age. If you are considering renovating a kitchen or bathroom or making changes in your home as you age, I would suggest that your first step be to call George Barber !(Phoenix Inspirations) Barb Ajax (1990) Midland (2012)

We recently moved from our family home into a condominium in Penetanquishine. We wanted a kitchen that reminded us of home with lots of storage space. The plans for the condominium kitchens were dark with a single bank of cabinets. George Barber created a different design for us. He added a second bank of cabinets over the sink with an archway to see through to our dinning room. The cabinets are cream and make the room look much larger. George installed motion activated LED lighting under the cabinets to provide lots of light. The kitchen is smaller than the one we had in our family home but it is just as functional. It’s a great place to prepare meals when our family comes to visit. All we need now is a butler. George designed an entertainment center for our family room. The room is not large so the unit is only 15 inches deep and holds our television set. There is storage area for files and lots of open shelving for books and pictures of family and fish. The bathroom designs have large cabinets above the toilets and vanities with generous storage areas. All of the countertops in the condominium have solid antibacterial surfaces that do not stain. The bathrooms both have safety grip bars to help us avoid slips and falls. Phoenix Inspirations has made our new home very comfortable." Beth & Doug Penetangusihene (2013)

In 2005 we decided to renovate the large farm style kitchen in our house. We were lucky enough to have George Barber design it. George came to our home and quietly guided us through thinking about the design elements that would make our kitchen both beautiful and highly functional. I say a quiet thank-you for his patience in that process every time we host large family gatherings, enjoy dinner parties, or provide a buffet for a mob of teenagers. The kitchen layout includes a double oven, gas burners, a counter depth fridge& freezer, a double sink, a dishwasher, a large island that has a second sink, and a breakfast table. The diagonally installed tile, backsplash, and countertop highlight the honey coloured maple cabinets. I love to work in the kitchen and during the holidays there’s room for helpers to work as well. There is even a couch for those who want to sip wine and watch. Our kitchen is truly the center of our home. I would recommend Phoenix Inspirations for anyone planning to renovate.
