Live with BK Property Management
I understand rent prices are astronomical in Barrie so BK may seem appealing to go with, but please save yourself the nightmare of renting with them and go with any other company. I unfortunately was desperate to get away from downtown so I applied with BK. I should've known it was a bad idea when the person showing me the apartment was relieved I accepted. The day I moved in, I was greeted by an overflowing of trash, dead flies, urine in the toilet, and drug paraphernalia, trash, cigarette butts, dirty diapers, and dog feces all over the overgrown backyard. The tenants who lived above me smoked methamphetamine so that was a lovely smell to get accustomed to. Once they moved out, BK rented the upstairs to a larger family with a dog who barked constantly starting at 5am everyday. Keep in mind, the unit I rented was barely 300 sq ft and I, being 5'4, could touch the ceiling without my arm outstretched. My over 6' friend had to crouch throughout most of the apartment. That being said, I could hear absolutely everything my neighbours did; cooking, talking, watching television, there was no soundproofing whatsoever. Once the lease was up and it went month-to-month, I couldn't take it anymore and decided to move out. By law, only an N9 is required to establish ending a tenancy, but BK insisted a "splitting tenants letter" needed to be signed. This, of course, is not true and kept me wrapped up in the tenancy for months before I had the mind to call the Landlord and Tenant Board where I was assured only an N9 is necessary. Of course, trying to communicate with BK goes nowhere as they do not answer their phone or emails. I ended up emailing the N9 as well as mailing through the post on February 2nd. To this day, BK continues to harass me about rent. I've been forced to seek legal representation to make the communications cease. I have only one piece of advice if you're forced to rent with BK; save your pennies and move elsewhere as soon as you can. Oh, and good luck.
