About Us

We love garlic. This will probably not come as a big surprise. But really, growing garlic is more a hobby and a passion for us. And Bulbs of Fire allows us to spend more time exploring this great veggie. It's definitely a journey. Garlic is one of a handful things we do from our 1880's old farm house near Georgian Bay.

We moved from the Netherlands to Canada in 2006 and rapidly embraced the Canadian country life. We're loving it. Coming from the densely populated northwest corner of Europe, we feel more connected to nature and the seasons than ever before.

I am a writer by profession, a journalist specialized in business, business strategy, marketing and sales. A far cry from the rural life we lead. But it works. I enjoy my professional life on the one hand and love the farming stuff. It keeps you sane and connected to things outside the digital world.

Above all the farm life provides so much joy coming from simple things. From a mother hen caring for the new born chicks, the joy our daughter Lynn experiences when feeding chickens, the knowledge of preparing and eating a meal purely made from stuff grown and harvested right here. Simple but special.

The garlic takes a special place in the farm life. It's only a couple of years ago that I found out how easy it is to grow it. Break up a bulb, stick the cloves in the ground and harvest the bulbs the year after. Who knew something that easy could provide this tasty treasure. I got hooked and discovered different varieties.

My wife Simone and I also run a dog breeding program here. We breed Bernese Mountain Dogs under our kennel name Mount Magic. Our goal is producing healthy Berners that exemplify the breed standard. Our dogs all come from European champion bloodlines.

We also have a lot of chickens. We have different breeds of chickens that provide us with a daily bounty of tasty free-range eggs. These eggs come in different colours. White, crème, brown, blue green and the stunning chocolate brown eggs from our Black Copper Marans. We sell eggs for consumption or hatching eggs. Click here for more info on the eggs.

Anyway, enough about us. Thanks so much for your interest in us and our garlic in particular. We hope you enjoy the website and find the information provided worthwhile.

We love hearing from you!
