To celebrate the 130th Anniversary of the Incorporation of Penetanguishene as a village, a special committee was organized to undertake the re-printing of This Was Yesterday: A Pictorial History of the Early Days of Penetanguishene, a popular and comprehensive look at the development of the Town of Penetanguishene from its earliest beginnings up to the late 1900’s.  This book was originally published in 1982 and due to popular demand was re-printed in 1986.  With the increase in population and a growing interest in local history and genealogy, it was decided that it was the time and the occasion to reprint the book once again.

Because the first publication date is over 20 years old, a booklet has been included to provide additional information to the reader.  The town boundaries have expanded since 1982 which made it pertinent to include a present day map of Penetanguishene, as well as an updated Mayor’s list, and an outline of the major changes in the Town post-1982.  Most importantly, the booklet includes an index that allows for quick reference to those that are interested in finding members of their families or other notable individuals.
